CONCORDIA, Kan. – Saheed Sanusi (Nassau, Bahamas) helped the Northeast Community College men's basketball team to a 68-56 victory on Saturday, thanks to a 28-point performance against Cloud County Community College in Concordia, Kan.
The Hawks (3-5) led by two points at halftime and outscored CCCC by 10 points in the second half. It was a back-and-forth affair for much of the first half, but Sanusi hit a 3-pointer with 56 seconds remaining in the first half to give the Hawks a two-point lead. Less than a minute later, Sanusi hit a layup that gave the Hawks the slight edge heading into the locker room.
The Hawks came out of halftime on fire, thanks to back-to-back 3-pointers from Evan Decker (Omaha, Neb.) and Emaniel Alexandre (Nassau, Bahamas). The Hawks began to pull away late in the half after a jumper and four straight made free throws from Sanusi after CCCC was called for two technical fouls.
Sanusi finished with 28 points and eight rebounds on 6-of-11 shooting from the field and 14-of-16 from the charity stripe. Decker added 13 points and five boards, while Alexandre had 12 points and seven rebounds.
The Hawks host North Iowa Area Community College at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
