COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – The Northeast Community College men's basketball team couldn't keep up with the hot-shooting Iowa Western Community College men's basketball team on Wednesday night, falling 77-65 at the Reiver Arena in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
The Hawks (3-11, 3-11 ICCAC) were held to only 37 percent shooting from the field, while the home team shot 53 percent. The Reivers held a 10-point lead for much of the first half, until Michael Anderson (Lincoln, Neb.) sank a 3-pointer that brought the Hawks within nine points.
Iowa Western controlled the start of the second half, however, Evan Decker (Omaha, Neb.) hit a jumper with 9:15 to play that cut the Reivers' lead to single digits. Ultimately, the Hawks went cold down the stretch, allowing the Reivers to control the tempo the rest of the way.
Decker tallied 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field. Ben Tew (Cheshire, England) added 11 points and six rebounds, while Jared Lopez (Lincoln, Neb.) had 11 points. Anderson chipped in 10 points and five boards.
The Hawks host North Iowa Area Community College at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
