NORFOLK, Neb. – A 23-point effort by Seth Coatta (Minnetonka, Minn.) and Moses Byekwaso (London, United Kingdom) propelled the Northeast Community College men's basketball team to victory on Tuesday night at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
The Hawks were able to fend off the Southeast Community College Storm 83-81 to grab their fifth win of the season.
The Hawks (5-4) took a 10-point lead into halftime, but Southeast wouldn't go down without a fight, recording 52 points in the second half.
A strong defensive effort by the Hawks in the first half, limited the Storm from connecting on shots from three-point land, shooting just 29 percent. On the opposite end of the floor, Northeast shot 44 percent from the field and 40 percent from beyond the arc.
Along with 23 points, Coatta added seven boards, three steals and two assists, while Byekwaso had four steals, four assists and two rebounds.
Freshman Ben Moxness (Scribner, Neb.) had 10 points in eight minutes of action. Daniel Akuei (Melbourne, Australia) was just shy of a double-double with 19 boards and nine points.
The Hawks welcome Quakerdale Prep Academy for a 7 p.m. tip-off on Monday in Norfolk. Quakerdale Prep is a post-secondary basketball program located in New Providence, Iowa.
