CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Northeast Community College baseball team made the trek to compete against No. 15 Kirkwood Community College Sunday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Eagles came out on top 10-0 in Game 1 before the Hawks grabbed Game 2 by a final score of 10-8.
Northeast (21-8, 5-3 ICCAC) didn't start the series the way that they wanted to as they were only able to produce five hits in Game 1. Kirkwood launched three different homers in the matchup as they took the showdown in just five innings.
Game 2 had a much different ring to it for the Hawks as a huge five-run third frame finally got the scoring going for Northeast. Three additional runs in the fourth inning put the two squads at an even 8-8 score heading into the ninth and final frame. Taylor Gill (Orem, Utah) came to the plate with two outs in the top of the ninth and singled on a ground ball to center field that plated both Darius Hagen (Omaha, Neb.) and Caleb Cancino (Castle Rock, Colo.) as the go-ahead runs. Gage Ingram (LaVista, Neb.) sealed the deal for the Hawks in the bottom half of the inning as he allowed just two hits and no runs during his three-frame outing.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:
Head baseball coach Marcus Clapp on his squad bouncing back from Game 1 to take a victory in the nightcap:
"I thought we did a good job of competing in Game 2," Clapp said. "Gage did a nice job closing it out!"
Clapp on what it will take to capture a series win Monday:
"We have to be better at hunting the fastball and being aggressive," Clapp said. "Pitchers have to be more consistent with their off-speed pitches. We just have to come out and do those things tomorrow and we will be OK."
