MASON CITY, Iowa – The Northeast Community College baseball team took their final road trip of the season this weekend as they traveled to compete with ICCAC opponent North Iowa Area Community College. The Tritons and Hawks split the two games Saturday as the Tritons took Game 1 by a final score of 7-4 before the Hawks took Game 2 by that same 7-4 score.
The Hawks (38-16, 18-14 ICCAC) took an early 3-0 lead in Game 1 but were unable to hold it as the Trojans rallied for four runs in the second inning and three runs in the third inning. The Hawks would add three more first inning-runs in Game 2 and were able to hold that lead throughout the rest of the contest. Harrison Taubert continued on his tear of late as he blasted his 11th homer of the season. This win was win number 38 on the season for Northeast, which surpasses the previous school record of 37. The Hawks will have one more game with NIACC and postseason play to continue to add up wins on the 2022 campaign.
HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH
Head baseball coach Marcus Clapp's thoughts on how today's games went:
"Well, it was two different teams today," Clapp said. "Game 1 we didn't play well and had too many mistakes. Game 2 we played Northeast baseball."
Clapp's thoughts on breaking the school record for wins:
"I give this team a lot of credit and I'm proud of how they have competed all year," Clapp said. "We've had a lot of key injuries this year to the staff and had multiple position guys out throughout the year. They just keep grinding and getting wins! This team deserves the 38 and counting!"
