BOONE, Iowa – The No. 18 Northeast Community College baseball team traveled to Boone, Iowa to face off with Des Moines Area Community College in what became two outstanding matchups. The Bears were able to grab Game 1 by a final score of 2-1 and the Hawks rallied back to take Game 2 by a final score of 10-7.
The Hawks (36-12, 16-10 ICCAC) were led in Game 1 by Garrett Dudley (Johnstown, Colo.), who only allowed two earned runs in seven and one-third innings on the bump. Northeast put their only run on the scoreboard during the fourth inning from a Zane Zielinski (Chicago, Ill.) homer as neither team would push across another run until inning number 12. The Hawks were held to just four hits as the Bears eventually walked-off the Hawks to grab Game 1.
Game 2 highlighted the Hawks ability to flush the first game as they were able to score three quick runs during the top of the first inning. The Bears scored one run in each of the next three innings and the contest was knotted up at five runs a piece entering the seventh and final frame. A wild pitch scoring Taylor Gill (Orem, Utah), a sacrifice fly from Harrison Taubert (Casper, Wyo.) to earn his fifth RBI of the game, an error from the Bears, a bases-loaded walk from Blaine Guthrie (Emerald, Wis.) and another bases-loaded walk from Gill accounted for five Hawks runs in the seventh inning and a large enough cushion for them to claim the victory.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH
Head baseball coach Marcus Clapp's overall thoughts on Game 1:
"Well, I'll always take a split on the road, but Game 1 was disappointing," Clapp said. "(Garrett) Dudley threw really, really well and we weren't able to capitalize for him."
Clapp's thoughts on Harrison Taubert coming up huge again for the Hawks in Game 2 and what he has been impressed with from Taubert this year:
"He has unbelievable hands and he just keeps getting better with experience," Clapp said.
Clapp's thoughts on another pivotal series upcoming with Southeastern Community College:
"We need to be better offensively with our approach and understanding of hitting in situations as well as continuing to throw more quality strikes!" Clapp said.
