NORFOLK, Neb. – The No. 9 Northeast Community College baseball team continued their homestand at Norfolk Veterans Memorial Baseball Field Saturday as they took on Marshalltown Community College in an ICCAC matchup. The Hawks took Game 1 by a final score of 12-2 before falling in Game 2 by a final score of 11-9.
Game 1 saw Preston Tenney (Parker, Colo.) take the mound for the Hawks (26-4, 6-2 ICCAC) and he hurled a gem, going six innings and only allowing four hits. Zane Zielinski (Chicago, Ill.), Samuel Manwarren (Overland Park, Kan.), Harrison Taubert (Casper, Wyo.) and Taylor Gill (Orem, Utah) all doubled in the contest. Houston Fogelstrom (Omaha, Neb.) made his return for the Hawks via a pinch-hitting appearance in the bottom of the sixth inning and crushed a ball to deep right field. Fogelstrom tripled on the play before scoring on an error to win the game for the Hawks in six innings.
The Hawks struggled to maintain the positive momentum in Game 2 as the Tigers scored three quick runs in the first inning. The Hawks would rally back with six runs of their own in the second inning, but six runs given up to the Tigers in the seventh inning proved to be too much. At the plate, Taubert blasted his fourth home run of the season and second of the week while Fogelstrom launched his fifth homer of the 2022 campaign.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:
Head baseball coach Marcus Clapp's overall thoughts on today's games:
"We have to play who we are," Clapp said. "First game was fine, obviously. That's what happens when you pitch well. Offensively we got out of who we are and that's what's going to happen. You're not going to win games when that happens."
Clapp's thoughts on Houston Fogelstrom's big day:
"All the sudden he comes back and puts a good swing on a ball (in Game 1) and had two good swings in Game 2," Clapp said. "Hammered a ball to left and the guy is playing against the fence and catches it. That's just the way it is, but it's nice to have him back for sure."
Clapp's thoughts on facing Marshalltown for a third time tomorrow:
"We're going to talk," Clapp said. "We have to throw strikes. The defense gets back on their heels, we get down and we can't expect our hitters to battle back every single time. I need someone to step up."
UP NEXT:
The Hawks will square off with Marshalltown Community College in the rubber match of the series tomorrow. The game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. Sunday at Norfolk Veterans Memorial Baseball Field in Norfolk.
