ENID, Okla. – The Northeast Community College baseball team will leave the state of Oklahoma with their first series win of the season after sweeping a doubleheader Tuesday against Northern Oklahoma College-Enid, 7-4 and 12-1 at David Allen Memorial Ballpark in Enid, Okla.
The Hawks (3-1) picked right back up from where they left off Monday afternoon by jumping out to a 5-0 advantage over the Jets. The Hawks picked up a run in both the second and fourth innings before busting the game open in the fifth. That inning saw Samuel Manwarren (Overland Park, Kan.) homer to left field and Máximo De Léon (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) single bringing in Houston Fogelstrom (Omaha, Neb.) and Cooper Whitt (Knoxville, Tenn.).
The Jets would tack on run in the fifth and the sixth, but a homer from Harrison Taubert (Casper, Wyo.) in the top half of the seventh would ice the game.
Matt Dreher (Blair, Neb.) came in and shut the door in the bottom half of the seventh inning to earn the save, allowing one walk but striking out three to give the Hawks the victory.
Zach Chiolis (Rapid City, S.D.) picked up the win after allowing only two hits and striking out six in three innings pitched. Manwarren went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and two RBIs. Taubert tallied a stat line of 2-for-2 with a home run, three runs, a double and a stolen base. Parker Dorrance (Arvada, Colo.) finished the game 2-for-4 with a double.
In Game 2 the Hawks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after Taubert doubled in the top of the second to bring Manwarren in to score. The Jets would tie the score up at 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning, but that would be the last runner that they would see come across the plate in the contest.
The Hawks went on to score 11 more runs in the five-inning affair as the game was shortened due to the run rule. Clay Beaumont (Tekamah, Neb.) grabbed his first win of the young season, pitching four innings, striking out six and only allowing an earned run off one hit. Taubert had another big performance, going 3-for-3 with three doubles and two RBIs. Kaden Young (Columbus, Neb.) added a 2-for-3 day with a double and four RBIs. Whitt went 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI. Fogelstrom contributed a stat line of 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
The Hawks will return to the diamond at 12:00 p.m. four a doubleheader Monday in McPherson, Kan., against McPherson College JV.
