Hawks’ comeback falls short against Iowa Central
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Northeast Community College baseball team scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning, but it wasn’t enough as the Hawks (36-23, 28-14 ICCAC) fell to Iowa Central Community College, 4-3 in the Double Elimination Tournament on Friday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Northeast Community College baseball team scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning, but it wasn't enough as the Hawks (36-23, 28-14 ICCAC) fell to Iowa Central Community College, 4-3 in the Double Elimination Tournament on Friday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
The Tritons took an early 3-1 early as the Hawks began to crawl back after scoring a run in the bottom of the third when Sam Manwarren (Overland Park, Kan.) singled to right field. Iowa Central added a run in the top of the fifth before Cooper Whitt (Knoxville, Tenn.) grounded out, allowing Maximo DeLeon (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) to score in the bottom half of the eighth.
Tyler Monroe (Lincoln, Neb.) went 2-for-4 with a double, while Whitt and DeLeon each added a double. Preston Tenney (Parker, Colo.) was dealt the loss after allowing four earned runs off seven hits in five innings of work. He struck out five batters and walked four. Dylan Rodgers (Norfolk, Neb.) tossed four innings of relief and allowed only four hits, while striking out five and walking two.
The Hawks are scheduled to play the loser of Kirkwood Community College and Des Moines Area Community College at 11 a.m. tomorrow in Cedar Rapids.
