Whitt comes up clutch for Northeast baseball on Wednesday
NORFOLK, Neb. – Cooper Whitt (Knoxville, Tenn.) guided the Northeast Community College baseball team to a doubleheader victory over Des Moines Area Community College on Wednesday, 6-5 and 11-4 at Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk.

NORFOLK, Neb. – Cooper Whitt (Knoxville, Tenn.) guided the Northeast Community College baseball team to a doubleheader victory over Des Moines Area Community College on Wednesday, 6-5 and 11-4 at Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk.
The Hawks (29-21, 23-13 ICCAC) rushed out to an early 5-0 lead, before the Bears answered with five runs in the top of the third. Northeast received its go-ahead run in the bottom of the third when Maxim Fullerton (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) hit an RBI single up the middle.
Whitt went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base. Fullerton and Sam Manwarren (Overland Park, Kan.) added two hits apiece. Jeremy Schneider (Lovell, Wyo.) collected the win, tossing three innings, allowing five earned runs off five hits. He walked two batters and struck out one.
The Hawks took a 6-0 lead in the first two innings in Game 2 and never looked back, before adding three more runs in the top of the fifth. Whitt added three hits, including a double with four RBI and a run. Manwarren tallied a home run, while Zane Zielinski (Chicago, Ill.) had a triple and two stolen bases. Christian Carew (Parker, Colo.) was the winning pitcher of record. He threw five innings, allowed an earned run off five hits, while walking three and striking out two.
The Hawks host Southeastern Community College in an ICCAC doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Saturday in Norfolk.
