Northeast baseball takes home Region XI Championship
CLINTON, Iowa – In just its second year of existence, the Northeast Community College baseball team won its first-ever Region XI Championship, defeating Southeastern Community College 4-3, before forcing a winner-take-all game to down the Blackhawks 5-3 at Ashford Field in Clinton, Iowa.

CLINTON, Iowa – In just its second year of existence, the Northeast Community College baseball team won its first-ever Region XI Championship, defeating Southeastern Community College 4-3, before forcing a winner-take-all game to down the Blackhawks 5-3 at Ashford Field in Clinton, Iowa.
"I am so proud of these guys, it is well-deserved in everything that they have accomplished," head coach Marcus Clapp said. "We are looking to move on and we are ready for the next one."
The Hawks (32-18) will travel to Miles City, Montana to take on Miles City Community College May 18-19 in a best-of-three series for the North Plains District Championship with the winner advancing to the NJCAA DII National Tournament in Enid, Okla.
It wasn't easy in the first game against Southeastern as the Hawks trailed 3-1 heading into the sixth inning. The Hawks rallied to score two runs in the top of the sixth to seal the victory.
Donovan Warren (Omaha, Neb.) paced the Hawks at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, while Christian Dumont (Bellevue, Neb.) and Derek Botaletto (Omaha, Neb.) each added a double.
Andrew Altstadt (Columbus, Neb.) picked-up the win in relief, tossing two and two-thirds innings, allowing no earned runs off two hits, while walking a batter.
A four-run sixth inning proved to be the difference for Northeast in Game 13, after trailing 2-0.
Drew Smith (Elkhorn, Neb.) went 3-for-4 at the plate, with two runs, two RBI and two doubles.
After throwing 113 pitches on Saturday, lefty Andrew Shaw (Dillon, Colo.) grabbed the win, tossing seven innings, while allowing three earned runs off six hits. He also struck out five batters and walked two.
Alex Potter (Parker, Colo.) grabbed his 11th save of the season, holding Southeastern to just two hits in two innings of work.
