NORFOLK, Neb. – Freshman Cam Taylor (Bellevue, Neb.) has stepped up in big ways for the Northeast Community College baseball team.
The lefty held No. 8 Southeastern Community College in check for seven innings, propelling the Hawks (21-12, 11-7 ICCAC) to a 2-1 victory at Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk.
Northeast ultimately fell in the final game of the doubleheader 13-5.
Taylor allowed only three hits and no earned runs to grab his fifth victory of the season on the mound for Northeast. He struck out five batters, while walking three.
Bryce Walker (Papillion, Neb.) did most of the damage for the Hawks at plate, singling on a line drive to center field in the bottom of the fourth to give Northeast the go-ahead run. Walker finished 2-for-2 with two RBI and Jayden Sinju (Murray, Utah) had a double.
It was all Southeastern in Game Two, as the visitors scurried to a quick 10-1 lead after three innings. The Hawks managed to plate three runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning and another in the sixth, but it wasn't enough to hold off the Blackhawks.
Drew Smith (Elkhorn, Neb.) went 3-for-4 with a triple, while David Richardson (Bellevue, Neb.) added three hits, two RBI, two runs, a home run and a double.
Lane Koetter (Grand Junction, Colo.) suffered the loss, tossing two innings, allowing four earned runs off five hits.
The Hawks take on Southeastern in another doubleheader at 1 p.m. tomorrow in Norfolk.
