Northeast baseball tames Hesston College on Saturday
HESSTON, Kan. – The Northeast Community College baseball team headed south on Saturday and not only found warmer weather, but also picked up two wins against Hesston College 12-1 and 5-2 in Hesston, Kan.

HESSTON, Kan. – The Northeast Community College baseball team headed south on Saturday and not only found warmer weather, but also picked up two wins against Hesston College 12-1 and 5-2 in Hesston, Kan.
The Hawks (5-5) made quick work in the first game, jumping out to a 9-2 lead after four innings. Northeast added three insurance runs in the fifth to seal the victory after collecting 12 hits, including five home runs.
Jayden Sinju (Murray, Utah) went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, two homers and a double to pace Northeast. Christian Dumont (Bellevue, Neb.) added four runs after going 2-for-3 with two RBI, two homers and a walk. Drew Smith (Elkhorn, Neb.) went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs and a home run. Derek Botaletto (Omaha, Neb.) chipped in two hits, while Tanner Hunt (Elkhorn, Neb.) had a double.
Lefty Andrew Shaw (Dillon, Colo.) picked up the win after tossing three innings of one-hit ball, including five strikeouts.
Dumont picked up right where he left off in the final game of the afternoon, doubling on a deep fly ball to center field in the top of the fifth inning. The Houston Baptist University commit finished the day going 2-for-3 with a run, a double, an RBI and a walk.
In the top of the seventh, the Hawks added two runs thanks to a double by Jean Santos (Caguas, Puerto Rico) that ultimately put the Hawks in the driver's seat the rest of the way.
In the win, Smith added a home run, while Jackson Tingwald (Ralston, Neb.) went 2-for-4.
Dylan Nicholson (Papillion, Neb.) picked up his second win of the season, after tossing two innings of relief, allowing no runs and no hits, while striking out four batters and walking one.
Northeast hits the road on Wednesday for a doubleheader against McCook Community College at 1:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., in McCook, Neb.
