Ecklund and Kavan lead Hawks in five-set thriller
WATERLOO, Iowa – The Northeast Community College volleyball team rose to the occasion on Wednesday night, defeating Des Moines Area Community College in five sets, 28-26, 19-25, 22-25, 25-20 and 15-5 at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.

Rachel Ecklund (Overton, Neb.) led the Hawks (10-21, 5-4 ICCAC) on the offensive front with 14 kills, while pitching in nine digs. Lauren Kavan (Cedar Bluffs, Neb.) added 12 kills and 22 digs, while Danielle Wadsworth (Wolbach, Neb.) had 10 kills and 12 digs. Edyn Sudbeck (Wynot, Neb.) pitched in 45 assists and 14 digs. Elizabeth Christensen (Stanton, Neb.) had 37 digs, while Alexis Kapales (Jonesboro, Ark.) added 20 digs.
The Hawks will battle Kirkwood Community College at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Region XI-B Tournament on the campus of Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo, Iowa.
