MASON CITY, Iowa –Autumn Dickmander (Brule, Neb.) scored 27 points and was a force offensively, but it wasn't enough as the Northeast Community College women's basketball team fell 53-46 Saturday to North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City, Iowa.
The Hawks (7-12, 4-5 ICCAC) came out firing in the ICAAC matchup and picked up right where they left off after Thursday's dazzling win. A 3-pointer from Dickmander with 5:44 remaining in the first quarter gave the Hawks an early 11-5 advantage on the scoreboard, and a free throw from Lorna Maxon (Laurel, Neb.) with 3.8 seconds left in the half brought the Hawks lead to 18-10.
The Hawks took a 30-25 edge into the locker room at half, but the Trojans gained the lead and slowly pulled away over the final 20 minutes.
Ashley Hassett (Hershey, Neb,) recorded her third straight double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Maxon added seven points and six rebounds.
The free-throw line was advantageous for the Hawks as they made 81 percent of their shots compared to 63.6 percent from the Trojans.
The Hawks will get some much-needed rest before returning to the court to face No. 2 Kirkwood Community College at 1 p.m. Saturday at Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
