NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College softball team played host to ICCAC rival Iowa Central Community College Sunday to begin the final series of the regular season at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park in Norfolk. The Tritons took Game 1 by a final score of 10-0 and were able to repeat that result in Game 2 by a final score of 14-0.
The Hawks (24-24, 7-15 ICACC) struggled to string together hits in both Game 1 and 2 and didn't have their best performances on the mound either. Due to forecasted weather the Hawks as a team will have a rare day in-between their next games with the Tritons to work on improving what went wrong in the Sunday matchups.
HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH
Interim head softball coach Jade Long's overall thoughts about today's game:
"I just think at the plate we were trying to do way too much," Long said. "We weren't having team at-bats. We weren't making the adjustments needed to hit off these pitchers. That really came around to be a negative point in the game for us."
Long's thoughts on how her team can improve before the contests on Tuesday:
"Working on staying in our zone hitting-wise," Long said. "We were chasing some really crazy pitches and we were just putting swings that weren't our swings on the ball. I think if we come out Tuesday without our personal approach in the box good things are going to start happening to us. We just have to start to work on that base-to-base mentality."
"We just talked about that we want to learn from it," Long said. "We want this to be a not great taste in our mouth. We are going to use this tomorrow offensively, defensively and as a pitching staff to really focus on coming back better on Tuesday when we see them again."
