NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College softball team dropped both of their games Saturday to ICCAC opponent Kirkwood Community College by final scores of 20-4 and 14-1 at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park in Norfolk.
The Hawks (13-11, 0-2 ICCAC) struggled to find consistency both on the mound and at the plate, but at times showed signs of the team that had won 11 out of their prior 15 games. Alondra Martinez (Grand Island, Neb.) and Josie Knust (Plattsmouth, Neb.) each clubbed homers on the day as the Hawks look to bounce back tomorrow against the Eagles.
HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH
Head softball coach Iris Woodhead's positive takeaways from today's games:
"We got a runner on base every single inning," Woodhead said. "We had multiple runners on base every single inning. We just need to see that confidence one through nine in the lineup. We were one base hit away from scoring a run. One base hit away from scoring two runs. We had positive at-bats. Again, we had a runner on every single inning. A lot of times we had a runner on second every single inning. One through nine figuring out a way to just get a little hit so we can score a run. That's kind of the momentum that we're looking for."
Woodhead's early thoughts about playing Kirkwood Community College again tomorrow:
"Going into tomorrow, we did our scouting reports, we told the players what to expect, but sometimes you have to live it instead of the coaching staff just saying it," Woodhead said. "Going forward, we're looking at playing our game."
UP NEXT
