CONCORDIA, Kan. – The Northeast Community College softball team hit the road on Monday, squaring off with Cloud County Community College in Concordia, Kan.
The Hawks (3-5) led for nearly five innings in Game 1 of the doubleheader, but ultimately fell in the seventh inning, 8-7. In Game 2, the Hawks rallied in the top of the seventh to take the final game of the doubleheader, 11-7.
Emilee Spitz (Columbus, Neb.) went 4-for-4, with two doubles, a home run, two RBI and two runs in Game 1, despite the Thunderbirds scoring five runs in final two innings. Greta Lindberg (Tekamah, Neb.) was 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, three RBI and two runs. Brianna Aguilera (Pierce, Neb.) and Jade Koch (Norfolk, Neb.) each pitched in two hits. Spitz took the loss in the circle, after tossing one and two-thirds innings, allowing two earned runs off three hits, while striking out two batters and walking two.
Lindberg continued to swing the bat well in Game 2, going 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, two RBI and two runs. Spitz added two hits, including a double.
Josie Knust (Plattsmouth, Neb.) grabbed the win after throwing six and one-third innings. She allowed five earned runs off nine hits, while striking out five and walking two.
The Hawks battle Highway 81 rival Central Community College in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. tomorrow in Columbus, Neb.
