BURLINGTON, Iowa – The Northeast Community College baseball team was back in Burlington, Iowa to compete in the second day of the Region 11 Tournament against North Iowa Area Community College. The Hawks downed the Trojans by a final score of 8-7 to keep their season alive.
Northeast (39-19, 21-12 ICCAC) was faced with another win-or-go-home contest in Game 7 of the tournament as they competed in their second battle in as many days with NIACC. The Trojans jumped ahead 4-0 after the top of the first inning and had a 5-0 lead after four frames. The Hawks then rallied just how they did Thursday night against DMACC as they put together another gigantic comeback.
Cade Grevengoed (West Des Moines, Iowa) came to the plate in the bottom of the eighth inning with two outs and Northeast down 8-5. The freshman came through as he has many times this season and launched a three-run homer to give the Hawks the edge on the scoreboard. Gage Ingram (LaVista, Neb.) closed the door in the ninth as Northeast will again have their season continue at least one more day.
With victory number 39 the Hawks have now tied the program record that was set in 2022 for wins in a season.
