Northeast (30-13, 14-7 ICCAC) gave the ball to sophomore Nate Zyzda (Sioux City, Iowa) and the righty cruised on the mound until NIACC pushed two runs across in the fourth inning. Zyzda gave up another run in the sixth inning but struck out 11 different batters during his outing.
The Hawks entered the eighth inning down 4-0 on the scoreboard before Grayson Headrick (Littleton, Colo.) singled on a hard ground ball back to the pitcher that scored Cade Grevengoed (West Des Moines, Iowa). Taylor Gill then flew out on a sacrifice fly to center field to score Jackson Horn (Papillion, Neb.).
Northeast began the ninth frame still trailing 4-2 before Grevengoed and Tom Shakespeare (Canberra, Australia) both singled on line drives to left field for RBIs that tied up the showdown. The Hawks would take the lead on an error before the Trojans scored on two different errors in the bottom of the inning to take the victory.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:
Head baseball coach Marcus Clapp's overall thoughts on the ballgame:
"We didn't do a very good job of doing the routine things," Clapp said. "We did battle back to take the lead, which was encouraging, but it took us eight innings to compete at the plate. We just didn't find a way to get it done today. We must show up and compete tomorrow."
UP NEXT:
Northeast will finish their series with North Iowa Area Community College in a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. today in Mason City, Iowa.
