NORTHEAST TAKES SERIES WIN OVER ALLEN COUNTY
IOLA, Kan. – The Northeast Community College baseball team spent the weekend in Iola, Kansas for a four-games set with Allen County Community College. The Hawks took three of the four games and are off to a 6-2 start to the season.

IOLA, Kan. – The Northeast Community College baseball team spent the weekend in Iola, Kansas for a four-games set with Allen County Community College. The Hawks took three of the four games and are off to a 6-2 start to the season.
The Hawks (6-2) cruised to a 5-0 victory in Game 1 to get the series started on the right track. Nate Zyzda (Sioux City, Iowa) was dominant in his second outing of the campaign as he allowed just one hit and struck out seven different batters during his six innings on the mound. Cade Grevengoed (West Des Moines, Iowa) added a home run, a double and a stolen base in just his fifth collegiate game.
Game 2 was the only showdown in the series that the Hawks dropped as they were shutout 5-0. Clay Beaumont (Tekamah, Neb.) came on in relief and tossed three solid innings for Northeast.
The Hawks started Sunday with a bang as they topped the Red Devils 9-0. Harrison Taubert (Casper, Wyo.) launched his third home run of the season while Darius Hagen (Omaha, Neb.) added two RBIs. Gage Ingram (LaVista, Neb.) pitched six innings while only allowing four hits and striking out six batters.
The last showdown of the series on Sunday afternoon also went the way of Northeast by a final score of 3-2 in eight innings. It took an extra frame, but Grayson Headrick (Littleton, Colo.) scored on an error to give the Hawks the go-ahead run in the contest. Kaden Young (Columbus, Neb.) singled to bring in Jackson Horn (Papillion, Neb.) to give Northeast the cushion needed to secure the series win.

Head baseball coach Marcus Clapp on Nate Zyzda grabbing his second win on the mound in the early season:
"Nate had all his pitches working and worked ahead in the count," Clapp said. "He was able to keep them off balance. He did a really good job."

It will be another weekend on the road for the Hawks as they will compete in a four-game series with Neosho County Community College starting at 1 p.m. Saturday in Chanute, Kansas.
