Northeast baseball moves on with series win over Ellsworth
NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College baseball team took care of Ellsworth Community College in a best-of-three series in the Region XI Tournament on Saturday and Sunday at Veterans Memorial Park in Norfolk.

NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College baseball team took care of Ellsworth Community College in a best-of-three series in the Region XI Tournament on Saturday and Sunday at Veterans Memorial Park in Norfolk.
The Hawks (36-22, 28-14 ICCAC) needed extra innings on Saturday, but were able to top the Panthers, 3-2 in 10 innings. Colin Lynam (Springfield, Neb.) hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth to give the Hawks an 11-3 victory.
In Game 1, the Hawks were first on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth inning. However, Ellsworth answered with two runs in the top of the seventh. Maxim Fullerton (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) hit a groundball that was ultimately bobbled by the Ellsworth infielder, allowing a Northeast runner to score.
Zane Zielinski (Chicago, Ill.) went 1-for-5 with two RBI. Preston Tenney (Parker, Colo.) tossed eight innings and allowed only two earned runs off eight hits. He struck out nine batters and walked two. Dylan Rodgers (Norfolk, Neb.) earned the win in relief, throwing two innings and striking out three.
The Hawks took a 5-4 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning when they answered with four runs, followed by two more in the bottom of the seventh and Lynam's homer in the eighth.
Lynam with 2-for-4, with two runs, a home run and an RBI. Parker Dorrance (Arvada, Colo.) was 2-for-4 with two RBI, a double and a run. Maximo DeLeon (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) went 2-for-2 with a run, an RBI and a double. Cade Lynam (Springfield, Neb.) added two hits and two runs. Christian Carew (Parker, Colo.) was the winning pitcher of record. He threw seven innings, allowed only two earned runs off three hits. He struck out three and walked three.
The Hawks battle Iowa Central Community College at 1 p.m. Friday in the Double Elimination Tournament at Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
