Mazzini fans 13 batters in five innings; Hawks sweep McCook
McCOOK, Neb. – Chris Mazzini (Parker, Colo.) had one of his best outings in a Hawks uniform on Wednesday, helping the Northeast Community College baseball team sweep McCook Community College, 5-1 and 13-8 in McCook, Neb.

McCOOK, Neb. – Chris Mazzini (Parker, Colo.) had one of his best outings in a Hawks uniform on Wednesday, helping the Northeast Community College baseball team sweep McCook Community College, 5-1 and 13-8 in McCook, Neb.
Mazzini started in the first game of a doubleheader, tossing five innings, allowing an earned run off one hit. He struck out 13 batters and walked three. The Hawks (4-8) didn't pick up their first run of the game until the top of the fifth inning. McCook quickly answered in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game 1-1. The Hawks went on to plate four runs in the top of the seventh. Maximo DeLeon (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) doubled to right field that scored two runners and Tyler Monroe (Lincoln, Neb.) singled to bring DeLeon around to score. Colin Lynam (Springfield, Neb.) reached on an error that ultimately scored Monroe.
Monroe went 2-for-3 with two RBI, a run, a stolen base and a double. Alex Potter (Parker, Colo.) grabbed the win in relief, tossing two innings, allowing a hit, while striking out two. DeLeon and Houston Fogelstrom (Omaha, Neb.) both added a double in the win.
The Hawks jumped out to an early 8-2 lead heading into the fourth inning in the final game of the doubleheader. McCook added three runs in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings, but not before the Hawks tallied two insurance runs in the top of the seventh.
Lynam went 2-for-3, while Monroe went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs and a double. Fogelstrom had another double, while DeLeon recorded a triple and Parker Dorrance (Arvada, Colo.) had a home run. Christian Carew (Parker, Colo.) was the winning pitcher after throwing four and one-thirds innings, allowing four earned runs off three hits. He walked three batters and struck out one. Matt Dreher (Blair, Neb.) had a solid outing in relief, tossing one and one-thirds innings. He allowed just a hit, while striking out four.
The Hawks visit Iowa Western Community College for an ICCAC doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. on March 17 at Doc Ross Field in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
