Hawks come up short in non-conference play on Wednesday
GREAT BEND, Kan. -- The Northeast Community College baseball team let a 3-0 lead slip away on Wednesday, falling to McCook Community College 10-8 in Great Bend, Kan. In the night cap, the Hawks (1-5) gave up four runs in the first inning and couldn?t rebound against Barton Community College, dropping a 10-5 contest in non-conference action.

GREAT BEND, Kan. – The Northeast Community College baseball team let a 3-0 lead slip away on Wednesday, falling to McCook Community College 10-8 in Great Bend, Kan. In the nightcap, the Hawks (1-5) gave up four runs in the first inning and couldn't rebound against Barton Community College, dropping a 10-5 contest in non-conference action.
After leading McCook for three innings, the Hawks surrendered five runs in the fifth inning and four more in the sixth, but didn't go down without a fight. The Hawks added two runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings, before trying to mount a small comeback in the bottom of the seventh, but ultimately fell short.
Parker Dorrance (Arvada, Colo.) went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs. Colin Lynam (Springfield, Neb.) was 2-for-3 with two runs, a walk, a stolen base and an RBI, while Samuel Manwarren (Overland Park, Kan.) had two hits, including a double. Cooper Whitt (Knoxville, Tenn.) had a triple and Tyler Monroe (Lincoln, Neb.) added a double.
Preston Tenney (Parker, Colo.) was dealt the loss after tossing four innings, allowing five earned runs off six hits. He struck out three batters and walked one.
In the loss to Barton, the Haws couldn't respond after giving up nine runs in the first three innings.
Dorrance had a triple with two RBI. Nate Zyzda (Sioux City, Iowa) was straddled with the loss, throwing one and one-third innings, allowing five earned runs off six hits. He struck out two batters and walk a pair. Josh Conn (Summerland Key, Fla.) threw two and two-thirds innings in relief, allowing an earned run off four hits, while striking out six and walking one. Alex Potter (Parker, Colo.) tossed two innings, while striking out five and walking one.
The Hawks travel to Oklahoma to take on North Central Missouri College at 4 p.m. Saturday, followed by a seven-inning game against No. 8 Northern Oklahoma-College Enid at 7 p.m. at David Allen Memorial Ballpark in Enid, Okla.
