SEVEN FROM HAWKS WOMEN’S SOCCER NAMED ALL-REGION WEDNESDAY
AMES, Iowa – The Northeast Community College women’s soccer team had seven different student-athletes place on the various All-Region team, it was announced by the ICCAC Wednesday. Samantha Bayer (Queensland, Australia) and Talia Sanders (Queensland, Australia) were named First Team All-Region, Amelia Bingley (Melbourne, Australia), Lexie Lilienthal (Grand Island, Nebraska) and Marleigh Leister (South Jordan, Utah) were named Second Team All-Region while Megan Derby (Keenesburg, Colo.) and Sarah Huckels (Essen, Germany) were named Honorable Mention All-Region.

Samantha Bayer (Queensland, Australia) and Talia Sanders (Queensland, Australia) were named First Team All-Region, Amelia Bingley (Melbourne, Australia), Lexie Lilienthal (Grand Island, Nebraska) and Marleigh Leister (South Jordan, Utah) were named Second Team All-Region while Megan Derby (Keenesburg, Colo.) and Sarah Huckels (Essen, Germany) were named Honorable Mention All-Region.
Samantha Bayer finished her sophomore campaign tied for 24th in the entire NJCAA in goals this season with 17 and was 28th in the nation with 39 points to earn the First Team All-Region honor. Talia Sanders backed up a freshman season where she was named First Team All-Region and Honorable Mention All-American with another stellar year that included 15 goals and 38 points.
Freshman Amelia Bingley was a bright spot for the Hawks in her first season at Northeast as her 10 goals and 32 points helped propel the Hawks to a third-place finish in the Region 11 regular season. Lexi Lilienthal was named Honorable Mention All-Region at the end of her first year at Northeast and improved on that result in year two as the sophomore was named Second Team All-Region after a season where she put in eight goals and added 27 points. Marleigh Leister has now been named Second Team All-Region during both of her years in a Hawks uniform as the midfielder scored six goals and assisted six others in 2024. Leister was also named to the Region 11 All-Tournament Team for her performance during the postseason.
The last name Derby has been a mainstay at Northeast as Erica Derby was named Second Team All-Region in 2021, First Team All-Region in 2022 and was the Defensive MVP of the Region 11 Tournament in each of her two seasons with the Hawks. Her sister, current sophomore Megan Derby, was named Honorable Mention All-Region this year and placed on the Region 11 All-Tournament Team in 2024 as the Derby lineage now completes their careers at Northeast with three All-Region nods and three All-Tournament Team appearances.
Freshman Sarah Huckels was the final Hawks player to find herself on an All-Region Team as the goalkeeper helped Northeast concede only three goals during the conference portion of their schedule.
