NORFOLK, Neb. – The No. 7 Northeast Community College women's soccer team left no doubt Wednesday as they competed in a Region XI Semifinal against Southeastern Community College at home in Norfolk. The Hawks took a commanding 15-0 victory to earn their place in the Region XI Championship for the third-straight year.
The Hawks (17-2-1, 9-1 ICCAC) had previously taken down the Blackhawks by final scores of 12-0 and 9-0 in the regular season, but to better that score line in the postseason was certainly an impressive feat. Defender Erica Derby (Keenesburg, Colorado) scored two goals while forward Taryn O'Brien (Lakewood, Colo.) punched in four to break the school record for most goals in a season.
Goals: Carly Schaad (Columbus, Neb.) (2), Erica Derby (Keenesburg, Colo.) (2), Jaidyn Cavalieri (Castle Rock, Colo.), Jessie Eijbersen (Arnhem, Netherlands) (2), Kailey Lincoln (Gold Coast, Australia), Mackenzee Stokes (Ninji, Australia) (2), Romeni Gurmendi (Boulder, Colo.), Taryn O'Brien (Lakewood, Colo.) (4)
Assists: Aidyn Woodall (Castle Rock, Colo.) (4), Jessie Eijbersen (2), Mackenzee Stokes (3), Romeni Gurmendi, Taryn O'Brien
HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:
Head women's soccer coach Chad Miller on the dominant performance today:
"The girls are just so determined and so focused right now," Miller said. "I love how they are thinking and the way that they are playing right now. I love it."
Miller on facing the only squad to hand his team a loss in conference play next:
"We are going to have to prepare," Miller said. "We've played them already, so we just have to prepare for it. As long as we come with the focus that we had today, this team makes me confident. I don't have any doubt in them. We'll just come out and play and do our thing."
UP NEXT:
Everything will be on the line as the Hawks will host the Region XI Championship against Hawkeye Community College at 3 p.m. Sunday at Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk.
