MASON CITY, Iowa – The Northeast Community College women's soccer team scored two goals in the first half of an ICCAC showdown on Monday and never looked back, toppling North Iowa Area Community College 7-0 in Mason City, Iowa.
Naomi Pedroza (Hastings, Neb.) tallied another hat trick for the Hawks (13-3, 5-2 ICCAC), with goals in the fifth, 52nd and 74th minutes. Pedroza has now tallied 27 goals as a freshman, putting her in seventh place in total goals at the NJCAA DI level.
Kyla Ryan (Seymour, Wis.) added two goals, while Kahrena Thompson (Jamestown, Colo.) and Danielle Jokerst (Kansas City, Mo.) each had a goal.
The Hawks out-shot NIACC, 28-4. Mackenzie Byrnes (Brighton, Colo.) had two saves.
"We started off really fast and after a couple of goals we really slowed down," head coach Chad Miller said. "We picked it up in the second half and played more like ourselves. It is great to see us spread the goals out amongst the players. It helps us see that we aren't so one dimensional."
The Hawks battle Indian Hills Community College at 1 p.m. Saturday in Ottumwa, Iowa.
