NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College women's soccer team picked up another home win on Saturday, toppling Hawkeye Community College, 6-0 in ICCAC play at Norfolk Veteran's Memorial Field in Norfolk.
The Hawks (10-2, 2-1 ICCAC) got right to work as Kyla Ryan (Seymour, Wis.) gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead in the first minute of the match.
Naomi Pedroza (Hastings, Neb.) scored the next three goals for Northeast, netting the freshman another hat trick this season. Kahrena Thompson (Jamestown, Colo.) found the back of the net two minutes before halftime and again in the 68th-minute to keep the RedTails off the scoreboard.
Northeast out-shot Hawkeye, 14-4. Mackenzie Byrnes (Brighton, Colo.) had three saves.
"We prepared ourselves for a tough match knowing Hawkeye had a talented team," head coach Chad Miller said. "We wanted to play our game and stick to what we know we can do. It was great to see us get such a quick start, which took a lot of pressure off the girls. This was a game where our girls played about as good as they could. It keeps getting tougher from here, so I am happy to see us play well."
The Hawks look to keep their winning streak intact as they travel to North Iowa Area Community College at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Mason City, Iowa.
