NORFOLK, Neb. – It was a day to remember for the Northeast Community College women's soccer team and head coach Chad Miller.
In search of their first victory of the season, the Hawks (1-3, 1-0 ICCAC) downed previously undefeated Indian Hills Community College (5-1, 0-1 ICCAC) in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference action 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Norfolk Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk.
Emily Goc put the Hawks on the scoreboard in the 48th minute close to the goal that proved to be the difference in the match.
"This is the biggest win in program history," Miller said. "Indian Hills is a top-notch program and each year they get better. Indian Hills made it tough to move the ball, but we were able to create some chances and capitalize on one. Our defense came up big today in holding back their attack and we did a great job connecting with our forwards."
Tayler Ohu added two shots on goal and Kyla Ryan also tallied a shot.
Alexis Wemhoff tallied five saves for the Hawks.
"We have been trying to find ourselves the past couple of weeks and today I felt the girls did it," Miller added.
The Hawks hit the road to face North Iowa Area Community College in ICCAC play at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Mason City, Iowa.
