CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Northeast Community College women's basketball team came up short on Saturday afternoon against Kirkwood Community College, 69-62 in ICCAC action in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
The Hawks (1-1, 1-1 ICCAC) made a strong push in the third quarter, outscoring the Eagles 28-18, taking a 48-45 lead into the fourth quarter. The Hawk's lead was short-lived as Kirkwood tallied 24 points in the fourth quarter to hold off Northeast from mounting any comeback.
Taylor Peter (Chambers, Neb.) had a career-high 21 points and seven rebounds. Breanna Stouffer (David City, Neb.) added 16 points and four boards. Hannah Ollendick (Tilden, Neb.) chipped in nine points in 18 minutes of action.
"We had a couple of lapses at the end of the first half, which led to us trailing by five points after two quarters," head coach Matt Svehla said. "We played a solid thir quarter and had a lead heading into the fourth, but we failed to get some stops and we did not execute as well as we could have down the stretch. We played hard and battled, but we came up a bit short."
The Hawks hit the road to battle Iowa Lakes Community College at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Estherville, Iowa.
