BANDT BLASTS FIRST CAREER HOME RUN FOR HAWKS OVER THE WEEKEND IN IOWA

ESTHERVILLE, Iowa – The Northeast Community College softball team was in Mason City, Iowa for a doubleheader with RV North Iowa Area Community College on Saturday before traveling to Estherville, Iowa for a doubleheader with Iowa Lakes Community College on Sunday. The Hawks dropped the four showdowns by final scores of 19-0, 10-2, 12-8 and 16-3.

Northeast (3-28, 0-16 ICCAC) took on the Trojans for the second time in a week Saturday after NIACC received votes in the week seven NJCAA Softball Poll on Monday. Talia Bandt (Grand Island, Neb.) kicked off what became a huge weekend for the freshman with two hits and a double in Game 1 and an RBI in Game 2. Bandt finished the weekend with six hits, her first career home run and six RBIs.

The Hawks were able to jump ahead 2-0 in Game 1 on Sunday against the Lakers after Lauren Marker (Kearney, Neb.) and Grace Sievers (Gibbon, Neb.) singled to score a pair of runs. Northeast was able to add a third run in the top of the second inning when Ahdriana Medrano (Grand Island, Neb.) hit a sacrifice fly to score Malika Monroe (Valentine, Neb.), but that would prove to be the last lead of the day for the Hawks.

Head Softball Coach Erin Sharpe on the weekend as a whole:

"Our bats are making some improvements," Sharpe said. "Overall, we need to capitalize on offensive opportunities with runners in scoring position, but I was pleased with our bats for the weekend."

Sharpe on hosting Iowa Central on Wednesday:

"I'm looking forward to the continued growth of the team," Sharpe said. "Getting one-percent better every day."

UP NEXT:

The Hawks will return home for a duel with Iowa Central Community College in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ta-Ha Zouka Park in Norfolk.
