NORFOLK, Neb. – The No. 8 Northeast Community College men's soccer team opened their home slate Sunday night with a duel against Central Community College at Norfolk Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk. The Hawks downed the Raiders by a final score of 3-0 in the match.
Northeast (4-0) controlled much of what is scheduled to be their only night contest of the year as the Raiders attack struggled to get much going. It took until Luca Rosen's (London, England) goal in the 25th-minute for the Hawks to get on the scoreboard, but the ball remained in Northeast territory most of the night. Edouard Nys (Dottignies, Belgium) put in his fifth goal of the season in the second half while defensemen Lucas Van Den Berg (Eindhoven, Netherlands) tallied the first goal of his young career.
STAT SHEET:
Goals: Luca Rosen (London England), Edouard Nys (Dottignies, Belgium), Lucas Van Den Berg (Eindhoven, Netherlands)
Assists: Jeevan Purewal (Wolverhampton, England) (2)
HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:
Head Men's Soccer Coach Adam Potter on the evening:
"It was an electric crowd," Potter said. "Guys fed off the energy. We talked before the game about being selfless and being willing to work for one another. We also talked about how our strength is each other. It was evident today that we were willing to be there for each other at every moment. We weren't going to give an ounce."
Potter on what he is currently seeing from his team:
"Victor Hidalgo (Valladolid, Spain) made a straight sprint to save a goal from them tying up the game," Potter said. "Guys like Luca Rosen were running behind and defending. Every guy was willing to do their part today. It was so fun to see guys compete and guys battle to challenge everything. They wanted it so badly. It is fun to see the guys grow and develop every day. It was a fun night."
UP NEXT:
It's back to Illinois as the Hawks will take on defending champion Prairie State College at 12 p.m. Saturday in Chicago Heights, Illinois.
