BETTENDORF, Iowa – Despite a sluggish start in the first half, the Northeast Community College men's soccer team came away with a 4-1 victory on Wednesday over Scott Community College in an ICCAC match in Bettendorf, Iowa.
Paul Einero (Cape Town, South Africa) gave the Hawks (4-12, 3-3 ICCAC) a 1-0 lead after a goal in the 36th-minute. Caio Carrara (Sao Paulo, Brazil) scored three minutes later to give the Hawks a 2-0 edge heading into halftime.
David Evans Jr. (Littleton, Colo.) found Conner Bickford (Arvada, Colo.) for a goal in the 55th-minute, while Einero recorded his second goal of the match in the 65th-minute.
"I felt we started this game off very slow," head coach Chad Miller said. "We didn't seem to be focused on the task. We were fortunate to be up by two goals at half. In the second half, I felt we played with a little more purpose. We were building better opportunities and attacking with some intent. Scott gave us some problems at times, so I am very happy we came out with a win."
Northeast outshot Scott, 22-12. Jyson Breitbarth (Hilo, Hawaii) had eight saves.
The Hawks welcome No. 9 Southeastern Community College at 2 p.m. Saturday at Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk.
