SPENCER, Iowa – The Northeast Community College men's soccer team seemed to be in the drivers seat on Wednesday against No. 11 Iowa Lakes Community College after a goal in the seventh minute.
However, the Lakers had other plans, rallying to score 11 goals to defeat the Hawks (2-6, 0-1 ICCAC) 11-1 in an ICCAC match in Spencer, Iowa.
Felipe Santos (Brasilia, Brazil) gave the Hawks an early 1-0 lead off an assist from Rocky Guevara (Norfolk, Neb.), but Northeast was held in-check the rest of the match.
Ivan Castillo-Garcia (Broomfield, Colo.) had eight saves in the loss.
"We started off the game well and played with some composure," head coach Chad Miller said. "We were able to benefit off an error to get on the board early. After that we didn't seem to be the same team. We played on our heels, seemed hesitant and had trouble building up."
The Hawks are back at home at 1 p.m. Saturday for a conference game with Scott Community College at Memorial Field in Norfolk.
