NORTHEAST FINISHES SECOND AS A TEAM AT MIDLAND INVITATIONAL

FREMONT, Neb. – The Northeast Community College golf team competed Wednesday in the Midland Invitational at Fremont Golf Club in Fremont, Nebraska. The Hawks finished second overall as a team and had multiple shining performances on the day.

Everette Carroll (Harlan, Iowa) led the way for the Hawks as he came away with a third-place finish in the invitational. Carroll shot an even par 71 on the afternoon and finished two strokes behind the eventual champion. Ty Heimes (Battle Creek, Neb.) also had an impressive day as he finished in a tie for sixth place after shooting a four-over par 75.

As a team the Hawks scored a combined 302 and 18-over par on the day, which propelled them to capture a runner-up finish.

Head golf coach Wes Bernt's thoughts on how Everette Carroll performed on the course:

"Really proud of how Everette (Carroll) played today," Bernt said. "He put in a lot of time and effort this off-season and it looks like it's paying off."

Bernt's thoughts on how Ty Heimes performed on the course:

"Ty has been going through some swing changes," Bernt said. "He has been great at grinding through days when he may not have his 'A' game. That is a testament to his maturity and attitude."

Bernt's thoughts on building off today's success throughout the rest of the season:

"At this point everything we're doing is with the goal of playing well at regionals," Bernt said. "Hopefully today's tough conditions helped us prepare for regionals."

UP NEXT

The Hawks will host their annual home tournament next. The Northeast Invitational is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. on Monday, April 18 at Norfolk Country Club in Norfolk.
