The Hawks (2-3) were outscored in the second half, but managed to come away with a 78-75 victory over Concordia University JV at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
The Bulldogs wouldn't go down without a fight as they came within five points late in the second half. Emaniel Alexandre (Nassau, Bahamas) sank a 3-pointer with 9:10 to play in the game that gave the Hawks an eight-point cushion.
Down the stretch, the Bulldogs matched shot-for-shot and managed to trail by just two points after a made free-throw attempt. Alexandre was fouled with 15 seconds remaining and sealed the win for the Hawks with two made free throws.
Evan Decker (Omaha, Neb.) led the Hawks with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Alexandre and Jai'lyn Spears (Omaha, Neb.) each had 12 points, while Jared Lopez (Lincoln, Neb.) added 11 points and eight boards.
The Hawks shot 43 percent from the field and 35 percent from beyond the arc.
The Hawks host York College JV at 7 p.m. Thursday in Norfolk.
