IOWA FALLS, Iowa – The Northeast Community College baseball team was back in Iowa Falls, Iowa Sunday for a doubleheader with Ellsworth Community College. The Hawks took Game 1 by a final score of 7-2 before dropping Game 2, 7-5.
Northeast (20-16, 6-7 ICCAC) had runs in the first, second and third innings in the first showdown Sunday and held their lead the rest of the way as Kale Jensen (Central City, Neb.) and Trenton Barry (Wahoo, Neb.) both homered for the Hawks. Cole Kuszak (Broomfield, Colo.) was solid as the starting pitcher for Northeast as he tossed five innings, allowing just five hits and striking out two Panthers batters to secure the victory and the series win.
Jensen homered again in Game 2 to bring his season total to 13 blasts so far this year. Cooper Tessendorf (Columbus, Neb.) was tremendous as the starting pitcher for the Hawks as he went three innings without allowing a hit or a walk. Jack Borgmann (Norfolk, Neb.) also sent a ball over the fence and Edgar Hernandez (Glenwood Springs, Colo.) did as well to give Northeast a late lead in the eighth inning, but the Hawks would go on to surrender three runs in the ninth.
