WAYNE, Neb. – Thirteen strikeouts in seven innings sealed the deal for the Northeast Community College baseball team on Tuesday.
The Hawks (15-1) cruised to their 15th-straight win, topping McCook Community College, 6-2 at the Pete Chapman Baseball Complex in Wayne, Neb. The seven-inning contest was moved to Wayne due to poor field conditions in Norfolk.
Four runs in the bottom of the first inning ignited the Hawks' scoring, thanks to an RBI triple by Harrison Taubert (Casper, Wyo.). Cooper Whitt (Knoxville, Tenn.) shortly followed with an RBI double. Parker Dorrance (Arvada, Colo.) tripled in the bottom of the second and that's when the Hawks went to work on the mound.
Chris Mazzini (Parker, Colo.) picked up his fifth win of the season, tossing two innings and allowing an earned run off three hits, while striking out three batters. Zach Chiolis (Rapid City, S.D.) and Matt Dreher (Blair, Neb.) combined for three shutout innings, allowing just a hit, while striking out six.
Dorrance finished 2-for-4 with a triple, a run and an RBI, while Taubert was 1-for-2 with a triple, two RBI and a run.
The Hawks hit the diamond for a doubleheader against Mount Marty University JV at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk.
