Iowa Central doubles up Northeast in conference play

FORT DODGE, Iowa – It wasn't what the Northeast Community College baseball team had in mind on Sunday.
After falling in a close 1-0 game to Iowa Central Community College, the Hawks (10-9, 2-4 ICCAC) fell 13-0 in ICCAC action in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
It was the Tritons that came out on top in the first game, walking off on the Hawks in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Bryce Walker (Papillion, Neb.) was 1-for-1 at the plate, with a double, while Spencer Weber (Bennington, Neb.) was 1-for-2 with a walk.
Alex Potter (Parker, Colo.) was dealt the loss after tossing a third of an inning. Starter Cam Taylor (Bellevue, Neb.) was straddled with the no decision after tossing six innings, allowing an earned run on four hits, while striking out eight batters.
Both teams failed to score through the first three innings in the second game, until Iowa Central pushed across four runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and six in the sixth.
Drew Smith (Elkhorn, Neb.) was 2-for-3 with a double and a stolen base.
Hunter Kelchner (Grand Junction, Colo.) took the loss on the mound, throwing three and one-third innings, giving up four earned runs on four hits, while striking out four batters and walking four.
Northeast battles Iowa Central in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. tomorrow in Fort Dodge.
