NORTHEAST SWEEPS NO. 7 IOWA CENTRAL TO ADVANCE TO CHAMPIONSHIP ON SUNDAY

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Northeast Community College volleyball team traveled to Cedar Rapids, Iowa Saturday to compete in the Region 11 Tournament Semifinals against No. 7 Iowa Central Community College. The Hawks swept the nationally-ranked Tritons by a final score of 3-0 to advance to the championship on Sunday.

Northeast (26-14, 8-3 ICCAC) took set one 25-23, set two 25-22 and set three 25-21 to secure a chance to battle No. 3 Kirkwood Community College in the title match tomorrow afternoon. The Hawks fell 3-1 to Iowa Central back on October 17 but put it all together Saturday to pick up the win. Northeast were champions of Region 11 for four-straight years from 2016-19 and will have now have the opportunity to add another trophy with an automatic bid to the national tournament on the line at 1 p.m. Sunday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Head Volleyball Coach Amanda Schultze on the victory over the ranked Tritons tonight:

"The girls played great tonight," Schultze said. "Very proud of how they showed up and played. We did a great job of staying mentally focused and kept the pressure on. Iowa Central is a great team and they played a tough match."

Schultze on advancing to the championship tomorrow:

"I'm very excited for this group of girls," Schultze said. "We have a lot of talent and I'm excited that they are showing that off right now."

The Hawks will battle in the Region 11 Tournament Championship at 1 p.m. Sunday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa against No. 3 Kirkwood Community College.
