Northeast volleyball grabs two wins in Kansas City
KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Northeast Community College volleyball team competed in the competitive KCKCC Tournament on Friday and Saturday, picking up two wins over Neosho Community College and Waubonsee Community College in Kansas City, Kan.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Northeast Community College volleyball team competed in the competitive KCKCC Tournament on Friday and Saturday, picking up two wins over Neosho Community College and Waubonsee Community College in Kansas City, Kan.
Set scores against Neosho: 23-25, 25-14, 25-23 and 25-22.
Set scores against No. 11 Cowley County: 15-25, 15-25 and 10-25.
Set scores against (RV) Waubonsee: 25-16, 22-25, 25-18 and 25-22.
Set scores against No. 5 Highland: 25-21, 16-25, 19-25 and 18-25.
The Hawks (10-8, 3-0 ICCAC) managed to notch a four-set victory over Jayhawk Conference member, Neosho in the first match on Friday.
Carly Hirsch (Norfolk, Neb.) tallied 17 kills and eight digs, while Elley Beaver (Columbus, Neb.) added 15 kills and 19 digs. Jamie Bonifas (Blue Hill, Neb.) recorded 51 assists and 12 digs. Caitlin Kumm (Osmond, Neb.) and Elizabeth Christensen (Stanton, Neb.) added 19 and 17 digs, respectively.
In the three-set loss to Cowley County, Beaver notched 10 kills, while Bonifas had 19 assists and Kumm added 11 digs.
On Saturday, the Hawks got right to work with a four-set win over Illinois based, Waubonsee.
Beaver tallied 15 kills and 22 digs, while Hannah Heppner (Stanton, Neb.) picked up 12 kills. Bonifas recorded a double-double with 41 assists and 12 digs, while Kumm had 28 digs.
In the final match of the weekend, the Hawks managed to grab the first set over top-5 power the Highland Scotties, but couldn't mount any type of comeback.
Beaver managed 12 kills and 10 digs, while Bonifas had 36 assists and 12 digs. Josie Sanger (Crofton, Neb.) chipped in 20 digs.
The Hawks return to conference play at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday against Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
