Hawks hold off Southeastern in five sets
NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College volleyball team was able to secure its second ICCAC win of the season, defeating Southeastern Community College in five sets on Wednesday night at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College volleyball team was able to secure its second ICCAC win of the season, defeating Southeastern Community College in five sets on Wednesday night at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
Set scores were: 25-15, 25-12, 21-25, 20-25 and 15-11.
The Hawks (6-5, 2-0 ICCAC) made quick work in the first two sets, dominating the Blackhawks on both ends of the floor. However, Southeastern didn't go down without a fight, clawing their way back to force a fifth set.
Northeast managed to take an early lead in the final set, thanks to a couple big plays by Hannah Heppner (Stanton, Neb.) and Caitlin Orton (Mills, Neb.) that ultimately put the game out of reach for the visitors.
Elley Beaver (Columbus, Neb.) had a career-high 19 kills and 23 digs. Megan Wehrbein (Burchard, Neb.) tallied 14 kills, while Jamie Bonifas (Blue Hill, Neb.) had a double-double with 32 assists and 15 digs. Josie Sanger (Crofton, Neb.) added 34 digs.
The Hawks step out of conference play to battle Indian Hills Community College at 4 p.m. and Central Community College at 6 p.m. Friday in Columbus, Neb.
