NO. 4 NORTHEAST FALLS TO NO. 5 JONES AT NATIONAL TOURNAMENT TO END 2023 CAMPAIGN

TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 1 Northeast Community College women's soccer team again battled at the 2023 NJCAA DII Women's Soccer Championship Tuesday at the Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Arizona in a must-win contest against No. 5 Jones College to crown a victor of Pool D. The Hawks were topped by the Bobcats by a final score of 2-0 to end what was the winningest season in the history of Northeast Women's Soccer.

Northeast (20-2-1, 7-0-1 ICCAC) took a 1-0 deficit just 9:36 into the contest but remained composed as they had fallen behind in each of their last four postseason wins dating back to October 24 against Iowa Lakes Community College in the Region 11 Tournament Semifinals. The Hawks also came back from behind on October 29 against Iowa Central Community College, November 3 against Johnson County Community College and on Sunday at the national tournament against Schoolcraft College. However, the magic wasn't there in the match with Jones as Northeast was only able to manage three shots on goal and allowed another second-half score as the Bobcats advanced to the semifinals of the tournament.

The Hawks finished their season setting a program record for wins in a season with 20 and were champions of both Region 11 and the North Plains District. The Northeast sophomore class totaled a record of 39-5-1 and were the winningest class in the history of the program. The Hawks were the top-seeded team in Pool D, a feat that had never been accomplished in the previous eight years of Northeast Women's Soccer. The Hawks finished fifth in the country in goals scored with 105 and won their second-ever match at a national tournament in 2023.

Head Women's Soccer Coach Chad Miller on the contest with Jones:

"I saw our group fight for each other until the very end," Miller said. "Even being down two goals, I felt there was still a chance. The girls have proven that over and over. They gave it everything they had. I'm so proud of them."

Miller on what he will remember about his 2023 squad:

"I have a sign in my house that says, 'Life is about the journey, not the destination,'" Miller said. "This team proves that true. This journey with them is unforgettable. I will talk about this team as long as I live. They are remarkable players and individuals. I can never thank them enough for what they did for me and Northeast."
