NO. 5 HAWKS SUFFER FIRST LOSS AGAINST NJCAA DI NO. 1 REIVERS

NORFOLK, Neb. – The No. 5 Northeast Community College women's soccer team played under the lights Wednesday night against defending national champion and NJCAA DI No. 1 Iowa Western Community College. The Reivers took the contest by a final score of 2-0 to hand the Hawks their first loss of the season.

Northeast (13-1-1, 5-0-1 ICCAC) and Iowa Western played in rainy conditions most of the night in what turned out to be a defensive battle. The Hawks had a few solid chances in the first half that didn't quite result in goals as one score in each of the halves from the Reivers were enough to down Northeast. The Hawks will now compete in their final two regular season matches of the season with the postseason right around the corner.

Head Women's Soccer Coach Chad Miller on how the evening played out:

"I'm happy with tonight," Miller said. "I think when you play the best team in the country and you can keep it within reason and have some solid chances that you create, I don't know how you can complain about that. Taking a loss against a team like that but still knowing that you played well is nothing but a positive going forward."

Miller on what his sophomores have meant to him with Sophomore Day coming up on Saturday:

"They are just such a great group," Miller said. "They are so quiet but yet they expect people to follow and they do their own way of leading. They aren't vocal but they lead by example and that's what has made them so special. I worried coming into this year because they are so quiet, but they have taken hold of their leadership style and they have everyone on the right track."

The Hawks will battle Southeastern Community College at 1 p.m. Saturday at Norfolk Veterans Memorial Field. Sophomores Hannah Thornell (Auckland, New Zealand), Carly Schaad (Columbus, Neb.), Ursula Fissenden (Kent, England), Megan Heffernan (Cordangan, Ireland), Jessie Eijbersen (Arnhem, Netherlands), Chelsea Dolbel (Devonport, Australia), Pyper Lochead (Queensland, Australia), Aidyn Woodall (Castle Rock, Colo.), Madison Krueger (Hudson, Colo.), Jaidyn Cavalieri (Castle Rock, Colo.) and Oceanna Solis (Brighton, Colo.) will all be honored as part of Sophomore Day celebrations.
