NO. 5 NORTHEAST WEATHERS THE STORM IN SECOND HALF TO STAY UNDEFEATED

NORFOLK, Neb.  – The No. 5 Northeast Community College women's soccer team was again at home Wednesday at Norfolk Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk for a showdown with Metropolitan Community College. The Hawks pulled off a 3-2 triumph over the Wolves to keep their record perfect.

Northeast (6-0) punched in three goals early in the ballgame and looked to be in full control of the match. Megan Derby (Keenesburg, Colo.) picked up her first-career assist in the duel with a long goal from over 20 yards out off the foot of Madisen Clegg (Saint George, Utah). Metropolitan roared back in the second half to pull within one of the Hawks, but Hannah Thornell (Auckland, New Zealand) made a pivotal save in the final seconds to seal the victory.

Head Women's Soccer Coach Chad Miller's overall thoughts on the match:

"We were outmatched in intensity in that second half," Miller said. "I am glad we got the win, but I am also glad that happened. I feel it was a good lesson for us to remember the game isn't over until the end. We have to finish games out. There are 90 minutes that need everything you've got."

Miller on the marquee matchup coming up in just two days and where he wants his groups focus to be:

"Friday's match will be a tough test for us," Miler said. "They are a very talented squad and will push our limits! I want our focus first half of today's match. That is who we are as a team and hat is what we need to remember and focus on."

The Hawks will be back at home in just 48 hours as they will host NJCAA DI No. 13 Western Wyoming Community College at 11 a.m. Friday at Norfolk Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk.
