NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College women's soccer team kept its foot on the pedal the entire match, ousting Scott Community College 8-0 in ICCAC play on Saturday at Memorial Field in Norfolk.
The Hawks managed a 2-0 lead heading into halftime, but the second half was all Northeast as they went on to score six goals to keep Scott at bay.
Naomi Pedroza (Hastings, Neb.) gave the Hawks their first goal at the 33-minute mark off an assist from Frida Aguilar-Ximello (Boulder, Colo.). Two minutes later, Mandy Stricker (Broomfield, Colo.) found the back of the net unassisted.
Mary Perez (Aurora, Colo.) kick-started the offensive attack two minutes after halftime and Kyla Ryan (Seymour, Wis.) followed with another goal in the 51st-minute. Pedroza added two more goals in the span of five minutes, while Londyn Cacciacarne (Layton, Utah) added an unassisted goal in the 70th-minute. Danielle Jokerst (Kansas City, Mo.) put the icing on the cake in the 82nd-minute off an assist from Madi McKewon (Omaha, Neb.).
The Hawks out-shot Scott, 20-1.
"We executed a little slow to start than I would like to see," head coach Chad Miller said. "I would like to see our play be faster. But, in the second half it was much better and we moved the ball better. Scott really hustled and pressured the ball which was good for us to see. It will help us prepare for tough games coming up."
The Hawks travel to take on Iowa Western Community College at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Reiver Sports Complex in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
