NORFOLK, Neb. – Sophomore Ellie Gess (Papillion, Neb.) made it official on Friday, becoming the first women's soccer player in Northeast women's soccer history to sign with a four-year school.
Gess inked with Notre Dame College, an NCAA DII school in South Euclid, Ohio. After receiving interest from several schools, Gess chose to play for the Falcons due to their nursing and soccer program.
The Falcons are led by head coach Mike Shiels, who finished the 2018 season with a 10-6-1 overall record and a 10-2-1 record in Mountain East Conference play.
"I really liked the fact that they have a strong nursing program and that I am able to keep playing soccer at a high level," Gess said.
Gess was the go-to scoring threat for the Hawks last season. She tallied eight goals and four assists in 16 games, including a .381 shooting percentage, while being named First Team All-Region for her efforts on the pitch. In her career at Northeast, Gess recorded 14 goals and 10 assists.
"I am extremely proud of Ellie and all that she has accomplished at Northeast," head coach Chad Miller said. "She is more than worthy to move on and play at the next level and I can't wait to see what the future holds for her."
