Northeast women’s soccer drops semifinal match to Iowa Central

FORT DODGE, Iowa – With the game tied at one heading into halftime, the Northeast Community College women's soccer team was unable to muster any offense, falling to Iowa Central Community College 2-1 on Wednesday in the Region XI semifinals in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

"This game went back and forth the whole time," head coach Chad Miller said. "Both teams were battling hard, trying to move the ball and defend. We gave up the early goal, but were able to get even again. The first half was a physical half."

The Tritons were first on the scoreboard, tallying a goal in the 25^th minute. But it wasn't long before Ellie Gess found the back of the net off a corner kick in the 28^th minute.

Iowa Central eventually put the game out of reach for the Hawks, scoring the game-winning goal in the 78^th minute.

"I thought this game could have gone either way, but the win goes to them today," Miller added. "I felt our girls gave it everything they had and left it all out there. Tough one to lose, but they did a great job this season playing against great competition."

Iowa Central outshot Northeast 20-8. Goalie Alexis Wemhoff had 11 saves in the loss for the Hawks.

The Hawks (8-7-1, 6-4 ICCAC) lose eight sophomores to graduation, while returning 18 freshmen for next season.
