JONES HAS 25 POINTS IN NORTHEAST TRIUMPH AGAINST IOWA LAKES

NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College women's basketball team took on Iowa Lakes Community College Thursday night at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk after weather pushed the contest back one day. The Hawks were victorious in the showdown by a final score of 72-60 to move to 6-1 at home during conference play this year.

Northeast (18-6, 10-4 ICCAC) was led in scoring by Aaliyah Jones (Rapid City, S.D.) as the freshman tallied her highest-scoring output during the month of February with 25 points. Jones added six steals while Mia Wiederin (Norfolk, Neb.) recorded 16 points to propel the Hawks up to fourth in the ICCAC standings with just two weeks remaining in the regular season.

Head Women's Basketball Coach Matt Svehla on the victory Thursday night:

"Good win and it helps us in our regional standings," Svehla said. "I thought we defended better in the second half, hit some timely shots and got some stops."

Svehla on welcoming No. 1 Kirkwood to the Cox Activities Center on Saturday:

"They are a very good basketball team, and we'll have to play well," Svehla said. "Any time you get to play a team of their caliber it's a challenge, but it's one of those where your team is excited for it. Looking forward to hosting them on our home floor."
