WIEDERIN’S DOUBLE-DOUBLE HELPS HAWKS RETURN TO THE WIN COLUMN IN FIRST GAME BACK FROM BREAK

NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College women's basketball team was back in action after the holiday break Wednesday night at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk against Southwestern Community College. The Hawks secured the victory by a final score of 71-63 to tally their 12th win of the season.

Northeast (12-3, 5-2 ICCAC) picked right back up where they left off in the first semester as Mia Wiederin (Norfolk, Neb.) recorded a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. The Hawks forced the Spartans into 27 turnovers compared to just 14 of their own while Aaliyah Jones (Rapid City, S.D.) added 18 points as Northeast is over the halfway point of the year and will gears up for the final 13 contests of the regular season.

Head Women's Basketball Coach Matt Svehla on the showdown and looking ahead to Central on Saturday:

"It's always good to get a win," Svehla said. "We were pretty ragged on both ends of the floor and the ball did not go in the basket for us. Low shooting percentages and we missed a bunch of layups, which didn't allow us to get the game popped open like we wanted. We'll take it and move on and hopefully play better on Saturday."

The Hawks will finish their season series with Central Community College at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
